September 9: AI – What is all the hype?
Part of the Division of Digital Transformation & Technology's AI in Academia Workshop Series

This session offers a foundational introduction to artificial intelligence, including what AI is, how machine learning and generative AI work, and key terms like MonarchMind, ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs).

Participants will explore popular AI tools—such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Canva AI, Grammarly, and Perplexity AI—through live demonstrations. The session also examines how AI is transforming higher education, with real-world examples of content creation, tutoring, grading, and administrative support. Finally, we'll consider the advantages and disadvantages of AI in education, including its impact on equity, efficiency, creativity, bias, over-reliance, and academic integrity.
